A quality, underrated Japanese lens, the Tamron 180mm f/3.5 is known for its classic rendering, pleasing character, and solid build quality. The first example image shown was taken fully open at f/3.5.

Using the Lens (Simple & Enjoyable)

• Set your camera to Aperture Priority (AP / AV)

• Select the aperture on the lens aperture ring

• The camera automatically chooses the correct shutter speed

• Metering modes work as normal

• Focus using focus peaking and focus assist

If you haven’t used legacy lenses before, you really should — many photographers find modern lenses can look flat compared to classic Japanese glass. Slowing photography down often leads to more deliberate, better images.

Some cameras require “Shoot without lens attached” to be enabled. If you’re unsure, I’m happy to help and can send guidance.
